Ashley Hardee was awarded a $10,000 4-year scholarship. Ashley is the daughter of Tony and Linda Hardee, and is a senior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. Ashley is an avid traveler and has traveled with her family to all 48 contiguous United States. She is active in her church youth group, local 4-H, and school’s Beta Club.
Ashley is a member of the Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital’s Teen Board, and she also participates in the academic internship program at her school. This program has allowed Ashley to intern at Blue Grass Airport, UK Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Beaumont Middle School Special Education, University Health Pharmacy, Downtown Lexington Corporation, EEO Associates, and UK General Pediatrics.
Ashley regularly volunteers with the Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky’s 0-5 year old playgroup and acts as a paid caregiver for Ava, a beautiful eight-year-old with Down Syndrome. Ashley has been inspired by her younger brother, Carson, who has a genetic condition called hypogammaglobulinemia, to pursue a career as a pediatrician. She plans to attend Xavier University in the fall as a St. Francis Xavier Scholar and will major in Chemistry.
